The Sun Microsystems/UConn Center of Excellence in Computional Oceanography

The University of Connecticut and Sun Microsystems have developed a partnership to advance the use of computers in ocean modeling and data assimilation. One Enterprise 6500 serves as the High Performance Computing platform for the UConn Marine Sciences faculty and their collaborators to explore fundamental dynamics of the ocean circulation and its interactions with the atmosphere and biosphere. Current computational efforts are primarily devoted toward the FRONT NOPP project and the development of an ocean observing system for the Block Island Sound region.
